Bad News

I just got word that Evelyn Moli dropped this class. This means that we will be without her for the rest of the project!
However, my two remaining partners and I plan to get together sometime soon to work on our insrtuments together.

Putting in the Strings

After discovering that the steel string did not wok out, my dad and I bought some actual guitar strings. It was easy to put in because the instructions were color coordinated in the way the strings were supposed to go.

The strings are sounding great! It's starting to sound like a real guitar.

Starting My Guitar

These are the steps in which I did my work...

  1. I cut i circle hole into the wood. (base of guitar)
  2. I carved grooves into the end of the wood so the tension of the strings wouldn't mess it up.

  3. I glued/screwed my can at the bottom of the whole. this will catch the vibrations and emphasize the sound.
  4. Next I screwed in "coat hanger" wire to my wood. This will sit the strings up so that the vibrations can occur.

  5. Then I screwed in the "eye screws" into both sides of the guitar and put the steel strings into the holes.

  6. The i tightened the strings.
  7. After all that I realized the steel wire didn't produce enough sound! I will buy some real guitar strings then just use those. But in the mean time, hears my guitar!

Materials

Today I gathered the materials necessary for my instrument. I went to Home Depot and got:

  • wood
  • screws
  • steel string (different sizes)
  • "eye" screws to hold the strings in place.
  • smaller sized "eye" screws to help tighten the strings

Other tools I will need is a tool that can cut a circle hole in my wood & a big can that will catch the vibration waves and emphasize the sound.

I know my dad has a tool that is capable of cutting a circular hole and by the time dinner is over tonight I will have a big empty can of beans!

2nd Thoughts

I have come to realize that drums would be too easy and simple to make. I feel that a "complex" guitar would be more difficult and fun to make.

This is the URL of the website I will base my project on. I won't make it as simple as this but I will follow the same concepts.

Getting it Started

My partners for this project are Kylee Knighten, Evelyn Moli, & Rachel Santiago. I chose these people because I know that they take their work serious, and so do I.

The instrument I will make is a set of drums. It will be difficult but fun!

If I were to name my band it would be... The Technicians!
